Most visitors travel throughout Paris in three ways—metro, bus and by foot. But there is one mode of travel that many Parisians have experienced but tourists seldom get the chance to use—I'm talking about the scooter.
Anyone who has been to Paris for more than 10 minutes understands that driving a car in the city is a complete nightmare. But the congested streets suddenly open up when you're on a scooter because you can zip past the traffic jams.
That's why I was excited when the nice folks at 2-wheeltours.com contacted us to see if we were interested in taking a tour of the city. My guide Xavier picked me up at my office and he even had a helmet for me to use. For my tour Xavier drove and I sat on the back of his Vespa but I had the option of driving my own Vespa.
We started off in the Montmartre area and we quickly zoomed through the streets until we reached the top. It was nice not having to walk up the few hundred stairs that one usually has to traverse on their way up to the summit. I've walked the small streets of Montmartre plenty of times but it was a whole different experience on the Vespa.
We then headed toward the center of the city to see the main sights of Paris. It was quite exhilarating being able to zip past all the cars as we explored the city. My tour included the Arc de Triomphe, Eiffel Tower, Trocadero, Invalides, Louvre, Notre Dame, Place Vendome and many other sights. Xavier offered little bit of history of the city as we rode.
Then the tour ended right where it started—at the door of my office. The tour was a ton of fun and it was an unforgettable experience. If you want true freedom a scooter is the best (and most stylish) way to travel in the city. And if you don't feel like going on a tour, you can also rent a Vespa (complete with the options to rent a GPS) from 2-wheeltours and spend the day exploring the city on your own.
If you're interested in renting your own Vespa or taking a Vespa tour around Pairs (and Versailles) be sure to contact 2 Wheel Tours.

What a great way to see the sights of Paris. Love the angle of the photo shot. James must be a seasoned biker? I would think the traffic could pose many risky situations? Be safe.
ReplyDeleteIt is definitely a great way to see the city. You have to be careful and be aware of your surroundings but the ride is fun and the views are spectacular. I (Yetunde), have been riding a scooter for a number of years in Paris. James for the moment is a novice but I'm sure after getting a taste of it, he will be back.
