Wednesday Wanderings: Ice-Skating at the Hôtel de Ville

Last week Susan and I were looking for something to do during the day and we decided to go ice-skating. We found out that every winter the city installs an ice rink outside the the Hôtel de Ville so we put on our thick socks and headed there. And it is cheap. It only costs 5€ to rent skates and it is free if you have your own.

As soon as we arrived we noticed signs that said gloves were required and I didn't have a pair with me... so we headed to a street vendor that was selling cheap gloves. One glove was too big and the other was too small but ohh well. By the time we got back the line had grown but we decided to wait anyways since we hadn't been ice-skating in 4-5 years.

The rink isn't huge but it is big enough to have a good time. There were skaters of all levels so some
people were in the middle showing off their skills and other people were falling all over the place. I am proud to say that I didn't fall once... I guess those years of playing inline hockey have finally paid off.

After skating for a while, we decided to get some of the famous hot chocolate at Café Angelina. But there was a huge line to get in and we didn't feel like waiting out in the cold. Instead we walked to the Place Vendôme to look at the lights and all the fancy jewelry that we'll never be able to buy.
