I waited and waited to see what was going to replace the small grocer that used to stand at #46 rue Ramey in the 18th and, I was happy to discover that it was a Crêperie that took its place.
I love crêpes. Sweet crêpes are very easy to make - the secret is to let your batter sit. Savory crêpes, on the other hand, Les Galettes de blé noir are a tad harder to do - in fact I have never attempted to do one at home. With the simplicity of making crêpes you have to ask some times, why go out to a crêperie. Well honestly I don't have a recipe to make one or two or three crêpes so it seems like a bit of a waste to make a whole batter unless you have guests.
I discovered Galettes when I came to France as a student, filled with everything from ham and cheese, to confit de canard and more. I mean what couldn't you put in a crêpe?
Tifin crêperie has a nice choice of both savory and sweet crêpes to satisfy any appetite and with a lunch menu of BLANK euros which includes a galette de blé noir accompanied with a glass of cider and a sweet crêpe dessert.
I thoroughly enjoyed my galette and crêpe. My only qualm was that I thought the galette could have been a tad warmer. The crêpes themselves were tasty even without their various fillings - truly the sign of a good crêpe.
The deco is a bit space-age but not in a bad way. The bathroom door is wallpapered with various crêpe recipes.
Every French person who has a crêpe recipe will tell you theirs is the best. Who knew there could be so many different ways to make a pancake. But when you can't or don't want to make it at home it is nice to have a good address to get out and have some.
February 2nd is La fête des crêpes, so what a perfect occasion to try a few.
Tifin, a welcome addition to the neighborhood!
You can find the Tifin's menu online though I don't think it has everything listed.
