Vegan pastries in Paris

In this Thursday's Food for Thought post, Monique takes us to a newly opened bakery in the heart of the Latin Quarter for a vegan baking experience.

For the Vegan Sweet tooth - bye Monique Y. Wells

Over the past few years, I’ve become increasingly aware of the dining establishments and shops that cater to vegans – persons who abstain from the use of animal products. Vegan Folie’s is one such establishment, located on my beloved rue Mouffetard.

The boutique attracts the attention of passersby with its window display of cupcakes, cheesecakes, and other baked goods. Whimsical names such as “John Lemon” for their ginger and lemon cupcake and “Toffee Lee Jones” for their caramel and toffee cheesecake will amuse Anglophones, while the colorful swirls of frosting that enhance their cupcakes will attract anyone with a sweet tooth.

Vegan Folie’s sells a wide variety of sweet cupcakes and a few savory cupcakes – including Lebanese and Indian flavors – as well. It also sells a wide variety of organic juices and other soft drinks. Customers have the option of eating in or taking out. The boutique is certified VeganOK by the Italian organization of the same name.
